Video Interview: Shel Israel, author, writer and speaker behind the Global Neighbourhoods blog and co-author of Naked Conversations shares his thoughts on visiting China for the first time as a featured blogger for the China 2.0 Tour.
Shel writes and speaks on social media’s impact on business and culture. Some of this is conducted in public and some of it is done for companies and private organizations.
In recent times, he’s been an editorial contributor to BusinessWeek, Dow Jones and FastCompany. According to Ad Age, ranks this blog #59 on its Power 150 list . He’s a co-author, with Robert Scoble, of Naked Conversations–how blogs are changing the way businesses talk with customers, which has been called a seminal book on business blogging. Shel is also working on a second book on the business uses of Twitter.
Shel follows social media wherever it takes him. He’s interviewed more than 100 people in 35 countries for his Social Media Global Report and talked to a diverse group of people, ranging from Michael Dell, founder of Dell Computers to Wael Abbas, who posts hidden camera videos on YouTube showing acts of Egyptian police brutality. His public talks very often discuss the stories and findings of the SM Global Report.
Since 2005, he’s been a featured speaker nearly 50 times in eight countries. More than 10,000 people have seen him speak on social media.
Shel serves on the board of directors for YourTrumanShow, a video blogging startup and as a senior fellow to the Society for New Media Research.
